Baby Born Holding A Quran In Lagos

People from various parts of Lagos State, Nigeria have been coming to catch a glimpse of a baby allegedly born with a Quran at 9, Oguntede Street, Shasha area of Lagos State.

Most people being found there were told about it, making it quite hard to identify one who claims to have seen the baby clutching the Quran when it was born.

Kabirat Lamidi is the mother of the baby. She is a hair stylist and is 32 years old. She says that right from the time she conceived, she had been sick. Eleven months later, she had not yet given birth. She went for a scan which she alleges revealed an object in the womb with the baby.

Ms Lamidi says it got her by surprise when a few seconds after delivering the baby, she pushed out a Quran. The woman from Ede, Osun State says as a Muslim, she is not dedicated and she does not know how to pray, all the more reason for her astonishment.

“I have been hearing about such incidents and I have always insulted people thinking it could never happen. I believe it is a gift from Allah,” she said.

The mother of three says the other two births have been done at the hospital. This one however, she claims that she went into labor faster than it could have allowed her to get to a hospital.

“My advice to people is that they should henceforth watch their mouth. I didn’t believe before now,” she said.

A staff nurse with the Shasha Medical Centre, Mrs. Saudat Olawuwo, who assisted with the delivery, said neighbors called her when the woman went into labor.

The nurse with 17 years experience said the woman was supposed to deliver the baby on May 16, but it never happened.

“By the time I came the day she was in labour, the baby was already coming out. So I assisted her. After that, we were expecting the placenta, but the woman began behaving like one about to run mad. I was so confused. The woman was shouting that she wanted to push again and all of a sudden, the Quran, wrapped in nylon and stained with blood jumped out. Out of confusion, I ran out and called people who came to see. We also called a Muslim cleric around the area who came and prayed for the baby,” she said.

The baby is said to be lifting his hands up every time the Quran is placed on his chest and would not drop his hands until the Quran is taken off.

This is the second time claims of a baby born with the Quran have been reported. May last year, another 32 years old mother made similar claims.
