Alariwo Joins The Comedian's League

 

Rotimi Martins, aka Alariwo of Africa, never ceases to amaze Nigerian music fans. Nowadays, the restless and energetic self-styled King of Crossover music seems to have his fingers in different pies.

 

When asked why he went all the way to France to broker such a deal, he replied, “Nigerians do not appreciate the kind of music I play any longer. So it has become necessary to look elsewhere.”

 

Now the crossover king appears to have found an alternative in stand-up comedy. In an interview with E-PUNCH on Thursday, he said he had found a diversion in comedy and may be considering a total switch because of the growing demand among fun lovers.

 

“Nigerians want to laugh more. It is not as if they don’t want to dance; but they want to laugh more,” he said.

 

 Perhaps, for this reason, he has decided to take comedy to the peaceful town of Akure, capital of Ondo State, on June 29, 2013.

 

His talent for humour will be tested at the prestigious Adegbemile Hall in Akure on that day as the talented entertainer drags top comedians and musicians to the city for a concert titled ‘Laff ‘n’ Dance”.

 

“I have decided to take comedy to Ondo state because the people are lovers of the arts and Akure is my second home. I feel it is better to bring entertainment to the people. That way, there will be no need for them to catch their fun outside the state,” he said.

 

Comedians, such as Gbenga Adeyinka, Koffi, Omo baba, Mc Abbey, Lepacious Bose, Funny bone, Bash, Laff up, the Omoghetto girls, Eniola Badmus and Bimbo Thomas are expected to appear at the show, with a special appearance by ace broadcaster/comedian Yemi Sonde. Music will be supplied by Sunny Neji, Weird MC, Jaywon and LKT.

Gobe....Yoruba Actress,Not Sure Which Of Her 3 Lovers Impregnated Her

Tale-bearers within the Yoruba film industry alleged that the Sexy Yoruba Actress, Liz Da Silva, who recently held her baby shower in May in Lagos in the presence of few friends, is not sure, who is responsible for her pregnancy out of her three lovers.

According to speculations within the Yoruba movie industry circle, Lizzy, as she is fondly called by her friends, has allegedly taken her pregnancy to three different men, none of whom has accepted responsibility for the unborn baby.

Digs done by First Weekly Magazine showed that Liz Da Silva first went to MC Oluomo, who allegedly slept with her on the night of Oshodi Day, which held in December 2012, but MC Oluomo reportedly denied responsibility for the pregnancy.

Rumour-mongers told First Weekly that shortly after this, Liz turned to one Akeem, who shuttles between Nigeria and the UK, who she dated while she was shooting her movie, which she premiered in October 2012 at White House, Ikeja, Lagos, but that he also rejected the pregnancy. 


Not done yet, the actress reportedly turned to one Khalid Soleye, who she met at Shoprite, Ikeja, Lagos in October 2012. Khalid, as we were told by the tale-bearers, works in an oil company.

We were further told that this rich guy stays in Warri, Delta State, but visits Lagos regularly. The gossips, who claimed to be in the know, also told First Weekly that in late 2012, after they started rubbing bodies together, Liz allegedly told Khalid that he should stop using condoms on her whenever they had any 'match' to play at the 'stadium'.

Khalid was said to have obliged the lady. But in February 2013, when the light-skinned actress allegedly informed Khalid of the pregnancy, he was said to have told her that he would only accept responsibility if a DNA test confirms that he is the father of the baby.

The industry tale-bearers also said that Liz was in the early stage of the pregnancy as at October 2012. We heard that even as at December 2012, when she went out with MC Oluomo, she had already taken in, but this was known to only few people.

The rumour monger said Lizzy might put to bed in June, all things being equal.

China baby’s toilet fall accidental – Police

The fall of a newborn baby into a toilet pipe in China was accidental and his mother will not be prosecuted, local officials said Wednesday, adding the boy is healthy.

The mother, 22 and unmarried, had kept her pregnancy secret and gave birth unexpectedly when she went to the lavatory on Saturday.

The newborn fell into the squat toilet and became stuck in the tube, police in Jinhua in the eastern province of Zhejiang said earlier.

Firefighters and doctors spent nearly an hour taking a section of the 10-centimetre (four-inch) diameter pipe apart piece by piece with pliers and saws before they could recover the boy, whose placenta was still attached, said previous media reports.

“Our investigations showed it was an accident,” a local police officer who declined to be named told AFP, and confirmed the mother will not be prosecuted. She refused to give further details.

The incident triggered hundreds of thousands of comments on China’s hugely popular weibos, services similar to Twitter, with users astonished by the circumstances and expressing good wishes for the baby.

From the time he was found until when he was taken out, the 2.3-kilogram (five-pound) baby was stuck in the tube for two to three hours, authorities and media reports said previously.

He suffered some cuts to his face and limbs and was put in an incubator at the Pujiang People’s Hospital, they said, where nurses dubbed him “Baby No 59″ after the machine’s number.

The head of the hospital, Wu Xinhong, said the infant was healthy and ready to be released.
“His condition is good but his relatives have not come to pick him up yet,” he told AFP.

Police have said the mother was in serious condition due to complications from the delivery, while authorities were still looking for the baby’s father.

"You’ve Changed" features Beyoncé and Michelle Williams — but don’t get too excited because Rowland wants you to know that this is not supposed to be a reunion.

It’s not a Destiny’s Child track, it’s me featuring Beyoncé and Michelle," Kelly Rowland clarified to Billboard back in April. Woah now. We can sense the tension in those words from here. It’s true that the ladies recorded this song in three separate studios, but no matter how you spin it, any song featuring these three angels is definitely a Destiny’s Child track.

It seems like Rowland is not quite ready to share the spotlight just yet. Luckily, the singer will be getting her time to shine later this year when she joins Demi Lovato and Paulina Rubio as the newest judges of The X Factor.

It’s just day 3 of this year’s edition of Big Brother Africa (the Chase) and housemates are still getting to know each other but that didn’t stop Ethiopia’s Betty and Sierra Leone’s super sharp guy, Bolt from sharing an intimate moment last night.

While their fellow #BBAChase housemates were sleeping,the couple kissed passionately and they would have taken it a step further but it seem Bolt came to the party unprepared.

In what seems to be frantic search for condoms, Bolt ransacked his pocket but the search was futile (Maybe, he’s not so sharp after all).

The duo gave up on the kiss and went to the kitchen to drink some water instead. As the duo haven’t said much about dating each other, time will tell if this was just a ”once off” incident or there will be similar ”recurring” incidents.

Kelly Rowland Breaks Down During "Dirty Laundry" Performance

 

Kelly Rowland was really feeling the music during her performance at the Fillmore Silver Spring in Washington D.C. on Sunday, May 26. The former Destiny's Child band member was giving the audience a taste of her new hit "Dirty Laundry" when she became overwhelmed by her emotions and had to stop singing.

About four minutes into the song, however, the singer gets choked up just as she sings the line "Turnin' me against my sister," in reference to pal Beyonce  and sits hunched over onstage with her head in her hands as she struggles to compose herself.

The audience quickly comes to her assistance, chanting her name until she's able to wipe away her tears and continue on with the song.
"Doing this song for me was so therapeutic," she said during the show prior to the song. "Honesty, like my mama always says, is always the best policy."

The powerful ballad, which Rowland released on her SoundCloud page earlier this month, addresses her past relationships with abusive boyfriends, as well as her jealousy of Beyonce's success.

Troubled actress Amanda Bynes was arrested in New York City on Thursday night, after police claimed she was caught throwing drug paraphernalia out the window of her Midtown highrise apartment.

Officials say they received a complaint that the former child star was smoking marijuana in her building, rolling a joint right in the lobby. By the time officers arrived on the scene just before 8 p.m., Bynes had retreated to her 36th floor apartment.

When Bynes opened her front door, police said it smelled "heavily" of marijuana and that they spotted a bong in the apartment, according to NBC New York. That's when the actress reportedly snatched the smoking device and flung it out of her window.

Bynes, 26, was arrested on charges of reckless endangerment, tampering with evidence and criminal possession of marijuana. Ahead of being handcuffed, the former Nickelodeon star — who was wearing a platinum blonde wig at the time of her arrest — grew agitated, according to TMZ, yelling at officers, "Don't you know who I am?"

Before being taken to Manhattan Central Booking for processing, where she supposedly spent the night, Bynes underwent a psychiatric evaluation at Roosevelt Hospital. She is expected to appear in court on Friday morning.

Bynes has been hitting headlines in recent months for her increasingly bizarre behavior, raising eyebrows with her ever-changing appearance, erratic ways, odd Twitter chatter and topless photos.

And this is not her only legal trouble as of late. Just two weeks ago, the actress pleaded no contest in California to a charge of driving on a suspended license, for which she was sentenced to three years summary probation. She still has an outstanding DUI charge in Beverly Hills.

Star FM DJ Kills Man

 

Star FM DJ Munyaradzi Mlimo, popularly known as DJ Munya has been arrested on allegations of kidnapping and killing a man he suspected of engaging in an extra-marital affair with his wife.

The DJ reportedly forced the man to drink poison. The Zimbabwean radio personality was arrested in Harare following the disappearance of the man, who was identified as Magorimbo.

DJ Munya was yesterday still assisting the police with investigations. The matter is being handled by detectives from the Criminal Investigations Department’s Homicide section.

Although the details were still sketchy by last night, sources close to the investigations said some time this month, DJ Munya suspected that his wife who works at PSMAS was having an affair with Magorimbo, a workmate.

Sometime last week he reportedly confronted Magorimbo at his workplace.

“A few days later Magorimbo went missing and a report was made to the police. Magorimbo went missing for two days, leading to the arrestof DJ Munya on allegations of kidnapping,” said the source.

On Saturday Magorimbo was dumped near his flat in the city while he was unconscious and was taken to St Anne’s Hospital for treatment.

Magorimbo died yesterday morning and it is believed that he was forced to drink an undisclosed pesticide.

His body is still at the hospital’’s mortuary awaiting post mortem.

National police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi yesterday said he could not comment as he was out of town.

Chinua Achebe's Body Finally Buried

The body of legendary writer, Prof. Chinua Achebe, kissed the earth of his fatherland in Abuja on Tuesday, when it was brought down from the United States of America.

The renowned author, regarded as the liberator of African literature, had lived in the US since 1990, when he relocated from Nigeria following a car crash that eventually confined him to the wheelchair.

 

While the author of classical Things Fall Apart had thereafter continued to make waves both in literature and scholarship, he passed  away on March 22, 2013, at age 82, throwing the whole world into mourning.

 

Like a prologue to his internment, which will take place in his hometown, Ogidi, Anambra State on Thursday, Achebe’s body arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja by 6am on Tuesday.

 

It was received by dignitaries that included Anambra State Governor, Mr. Peter Obi; Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Pius Anyim; and a former Governor of Anambra State, Chief Ogbonaya Onu.

 

While his first major professional sojourn abroad – as a lecturer – came by choice in 1972, when he accepted a visiting professorship at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, teaching African Literature, he had returned to Nigeria in 1976, as a lecturer at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. It was, however, in 1990 that the ‘last’ journey abroad began.

 

Writing in guardian.uk, Lyn Innes recalls that after having been paralysed by the accident, Bard College, New York, had offered him and Christie the possibility of teaching there and provided the facilities he needed.

 

She adds, “Now using a wheelchair, he continued to travel and lecture in the US and occasionally abroad. His talks at Harvard in 1998 were published under the title Home and Exile. His more recent lectures and autobiographical essays were published in The Education of a British-Protected Child (2009). He moved to Providence, Rhode Island, in 2009 after being appointed professor of Africana Studies at Brown University.”

 

For millions, if not billions of Achebe’s fans, however, it is time to fully embrace the reality that he has returned home, and has reunited with Nigeria – a country he loved, which he had had to fight when he felt he needed to do so, and about which he had envisioned greatness that, has, however, continued to elude it.

 

Many people who paid tributes to him at the reception at the airport, and earlier on Monday in the same nation’s capital, had acknowledged these and other virtues.

 

Particularly at a Night of Tributes held at the International Conference Centre, the likes of the Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, and former Senate President, Ken Nnamani, had observed that Achebe was a great nationalist and patriot who wanted nothing but the best for his country.
