Troubled actress Amanda Bynes was arrested in New York City on Thursday night, after police claimed she was caught throwing drug paraphernalia out the window of her Midtown highrise apartment.
Officials say they received a complaint that the former child star was smoking marijuana in her building, rolling a joint right in the lobby. By the time officers arrived on the scene just before 8 p.m., Bynes had retreated to her 36th floor apartment.
When Bynes opened her front door, police said it smelled "heavily" of marijuana and that they spotted a bong in the apartment, according to NBC New York. That's when the actress reportedly snatched the smoking device and flung it out of her window.
Bynes, 26, was arrested on charges of reckless endangerment, tampering with evidence and criminal possession of marijuana. Ahead of being handcuffed, the former Nickelodeon star — who was wearing a platinum blonde wig at the time of her arrest — grew agitated, according to TMZ, yelling at officers, "Don't you know who I am?"
Before being taken to Manhattan Central Booking for processing, where she supposedly spent the night, Bynes underwent a psychiatric evaluation at Roosevelt Hospital. She is expected to appear in court on Friday morning.
Bynes has been hitting headlines in recent months for her increasingly bizarre behavior, raising eyebrows with her ever-changing appearance, erratic ways, odd Twitter chatter and topless photos.
And this is not her only legal trouble as of late. Just two weeks ago, the actress pleaded no contest in California to a charge of driving on a suspended license, for which she was sentenced to three years summary probation. She still has an outstanding DUI charge in Beverly Hills.
